Be Strategic

I spent the morning doing research on a topic I thought important enough to warrant consideration and comment. As so often happens, the whole effort got completely out of hand. It became a hydra of fact, perception, opinion, intent, and consequence as the topic marched and morphed through recorded history.

So, I put all that effort and thought into an easily accessible file. And turned to a posting of a more simple and immediately relevant nature.

Off Course and Off Balance

In 1939, Churchill famously described Russia as a riddle wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. I think the definition easily can be modified to apply to any effort to understand Election 2024 and to defeat implementation of the Project 2025 playbook.

To review:

1. Donald John Trump is a self-serving, immoral product of his privileged circumstances. The Heritage Foundation needed someone like him to be elected to high office. Someone who could be its face, its voice, its policy and program enabler.

He badly mishandled his first term in office. But never lost political appeal.

2. The power brokers watched their patsy go feral during his troubled interregnum. He would need guidance and control to earn and enjoy a second administration.

3. Guidance. The Project 2025 playbook provided guidance for the First Day of Terror he promised on the campaign trail.

   4. Control. Follow the money. Money bought control of Trump’s political prospects. Money shapes and guides the Tour of Revenge and Retribution he promised his howling MAGA cult members in person, in print, and during friendly interviews.

   The State of Play

   The threat to the myth and reality of our form of government is real and ongoing. The health, safety, and security of We the People are under attack at home and abroad. Two months of a purposeful flood of adminstrative actions--ranging from troubling, to illegal, to criminal—have lost any ability to shock, much less awe. We the People who lost Election 2024 are recovering our balance and our moxie.

   Democracy requires the consent of the governed.

   It’s not too late. We the People dissatisfied with the results and consequences of Election 2024 can refuse to be governed by oath-breakers.

   We are so far off course politically that correction of the problem is like confronting that hydra I first mentioned—tough. One of my favorite movies is “Dave.” It contains a wonderful notion. Attack a too-big and complex problem on a simple and affordable basis.

   The notion that “all politics is local” goes back to 1932. Tipp O’Neal revived it in 1982, to obtain re-election to his Senate seat. Nothing succeeds like success. The Republican party directed a significant portion of their funds to gaining control of state politics (governors and legislatures). Look at the state of play across the nation during Election 2024 to appreciate the fruits of that prolonged effort and expense.

   Yesterday, I broke my promise to myself to avoid financial support to either political party until some sustained and responsible resistance to the Mad King and his Project 2025 playbook emerged. Last week, I received a solicitation from Leaders We Deserve. It is trying to identify and elect a new generation of qualified persons to serve the public interest at local and state levels.    Resistance 2.0 is beginning to show some muscle. Walmart and Tesla have lost brand value. Empty chair town hall meetings are gaining popularity. The American Bar Association is advocating for the rule of law. The national voice of judges chaired by John Roberts is demanding respect for judicial opinion and obedience to rulings on matters of fact. Down ballot activists are getting needed funding to identify and elect new faces to state legislatures. John Cornyn is concerned he may not have a smooth glide path to re-election. Jasmine Crockett is a new, attractive, effective mouth of the south.

   Let us take advantage of opportunity provided by the Signal Chat Snafu to deny, delay, disarm, dismantle, and destroy the implementation of Project 2025.

   Midnight in America need not come. Our resistance can reset the hands of the Doomsday Clock to a happier position.

   Let us keep our resistance simple and strategic.

   Let us pull up our socks and step into the breach now, every Power of One person dissatisfied with the results and consequences of Election 2024. Let us put into play our persons and our purses to demand:

   1. A return to positions of principle those persons, institutions, and organizations betraying a public trust in their integrity when bending a knee, kissing the ring, funding the personal wealth, or furthering the ambitions of Donald John Trump.

   2. The bringing of criminal charges against Musk and articles of impeachment against Trump.

   3. Referendum and recall of congressional representatives not faithful to their oath of office and/or responsive to the concerns and wishes of their constituents.

   4. Creation of a Shadow Cabinet charged with daily briefings of administrative assaults upon the rule of law, the health, safety, and welfare of We the People, and simple decency.
