Crisis Averted
For a Few Dollars More
News feeds were buzzing this afternoon. Glad tidings. Government shut-down would be avoided. House Republicans reached an agreement—the American Relief Act of 2024. The Act reportedly will suspend the debt ceiling until after the 2026 midterm elections. (Interesting timing.)
Democrats are hoping for an opportunity to review the measure before it is passed into law. Mr. Big takes credit for the revised measure. Which begs the question—under which acorn shell is the Billionaire Boys Club funding now hidden?
We the People are providing these funds. We dearly would love to be represented before being taxed. Call us suspicious of measures on which our opinion and approval is not sought before being hung around our neck.
Only of this are we certain. For a few dollars more, the best Congress money can buy took care of themselves in a timely fashion.

This brief piece of good news has balance with the coverage by Robert B. Hubbell today, who wrote "The chaos caused by Musk foreshadows a second Trump administration with unelected, unaccountable billionaires mucking about in the people’s business. What could go wrong?"
