Too Good
To Overlook
This is a public service announcement. For those of you who managed to miss it, here is a copy of Barry Blitt’s political cartoon entitled “The Latest Authorized Nearly Legal Map of the United States”. It is dated 31 Jan 25. The New Yorker magazine had the chutzpah to put it online on 01 Feb 25.
Barry was born in Canada in 1958 and moved to the United States in 1989. He creates his cartoons in traditional pen and ink, enhanced by watercolors.
Trump’s second administration has a playbook for its first 100 days in power. The document is Project 2025. It was published by The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank favored and funded by the Billionaire Boys Club. Trump has his minions implementing the principles and suggestions of Project 2025 at a speed that suggests a coup against the rule of law in America. As well as all the constitutional guidelines not yet successfully attacked by the rogue decisions of John Roberts’ corrupt and partisan high court.
First Amendment rights are a target of preference. Advocates for freedom of the written and spoken word (as well as a right to peaceful assembly and protest) suggest this amendment’s premier position in the Bill of Rights points to its essential nature in the process of protecting and promoting a democratic republic.
I believe political cartoons are the soul food of freedom. If interested in the notion, you can catch my wider comments at https://susanobrien.substack.com/p/long-live-laughter.
In the meantime, and in any event, I wish you and every other treasured reader a peace of mind and soul that passes all understanding on this traditional day of rest.

Thank you for reminding my brain to detox with some laughter, get outside this weekend because it is sunny and pleasant where I live, and come back (rested and renewed) to my position in the trenches of democracy on Monday.
