Who’s Your Daddy?
Texas Is Mine
In these parts, we often say to someone needing the message— “You just shot yourself in the foot. Try to resist the urge to reload.” Well, re-electing Cancun Cruz to the U.S. Senate for a third term is equivalent to a voluntary gut shot. And those hurt
I am offended by the recent political conduct of my home state. Not mad. Not hurt. Not betrayed. Offended.
And that emotional reaction tells me something worth considering.
On what basis did I become so haughty?
Simple. I am brain washed. Five days out of seven, right after breakfast and a brisk walk to elementary school, I identified myself as one of the “children true” proclaiming my allegiance, faith, and love to the “mother of heroes.”
I love the romance of my home state. In my heart, mind, and soul Texas is everything about which I sang daily before class 76 years ago--right after pledging allegiance to the other flag in the room. The one with more than a single, a lone star.
No matter what Abbott, Patrick, Patton, Cornyn, Cruz, and their enablers say or do—Texas is the “boldest and grandest.” It is “supremely blessed.” It is an “empire wide and glorious” that can and will withstand every test.
To my view, Texas is worse than a hostage to MAGA. It voluntarily is leading a charge against previously-granted personal freedoms and rights hard-won in and since the ‘60s. It is attacking the rights of other states. It is defying the authority of federal agencies. A simple change in perspective will not do to return us to a Texas Ranger frame of mind. We need an exorcism.
This is no time for a case of the vapors. Or to clutch one’s pearls in dismay. This is the time for true believers to identify each other. To band together. To cause change—vote by vote, election by election, seat by seat. It will take time. It will take effort. It will take commitment. It will take the faith of a child and the heart of a hero.
God bless you Texas! And keep you brave and strong,
That you may grow in power and worth,
Thro'out the ages long.

Terrific post and resonates with this Texan. You are offended. I am embarrassed for the people who call themselves leaders in this state -- in the same way I would be embarrassed for a family member or neighbor who behaved badly or committed crimes. That is not the Texas that had a great deal of pride and bragging rights most of my life. I can hear it now from the residents of Rhode Island, "Now, who has the last laugh?"
Well, my good and best faithful reader--buckle up, buckaroo bandits. We're a'comin' fer ya.
